Genre-defying Lebanese-Canadian singer Maya Waked to perform at Zabeel Theatre, Dubai

Maya Waked, the Lebanese-Canadian singer, songwriter, and genre-defying artist, is set to bring her new show to Zabeel Theatre in Dubai this November. Known for her re-imaginative renditions of classic songs and emotionally profound original compositions, Maya aims to captivate her audience with a performance that challenges musical boundaries. Her eclectic setlist will feature a fusion of Lebanese songs alongside French and English lyrics, creating a distinctive genre that is entirely her own.

Maya Waked has earned a reputation for combining her rich Lebanese roots and modern sound with Bossa Nova and jazz improvisations. She first rose to prominence as a backing vocalist for the legendary Lebanese singer Fairouz before collaborating with the late Ziad Rahbani, cementing her place in the contemporary music scene. Over the years, she has taken an unconventional approach to music, continuously challenging the traditional boundaries of genre and sound.

Maya’s performances are emotional journeys that connect listeners to her stories of identity, love, and longing. Her performances in iconic venues, such as Place des Arts in Montreal and Alexander Platz Rome, resonated with audiences from all backgrounds. Maya’s music is deeply intertwined with her multicultural experiences, and her upcoming concert promises to bring together Lebanese and western influences under one umbrella.

Having always felt a deep connection to her roots, Maya believes that music is a powerful tool to communicate complex emotions and stories. "My music speaks to those who find themselves between worlds, much like I have," she explains. "Whether I am celebrating my Lebanese identity or expressing my journey as an immigrant, I want my music to be a home for those who feel displaced, whether physically or emotionally."

Throughout her career, Maya has also focused on the theme of identity, especially for expatriates. "As someone who grew up outside Lebanon, I've always felt the need to provide a voice for those living away from home," she shares. "My songs explore themes of belonging, love, memories, and the complexities of home, trying to capture the experience of living in a multicultural environment."

Maya's unique approach to blending various musical traditions is not just about experimentation but is also deeply personal. "The fun part is when I allow myself to introduce an element of surprise into the music—it surprises both me and the audience," she says. Her creative process often begins with taking global folk melodies and crafting new lyrics in Lebanese, which resonates with Arabic and non-Arabic speakers. Her modern approach appeals to a younger generation rediscovering classics, while the rebirth of these songs feed the collective memory of those who remember them well.

Maya Waked’s performance at Zabeel Theatre will be a unique celebration of multiculturalism and musical experimentation. The audience can expect timeless classics and powerful original compositions that showcase her ability to connect emotionally through music. The concert will also feature some of her most popular tracks, such as her own Bi Beirut, as well as Shou Ada Ma Bada by Ziad Rahbani.

karan bhalla arrest karan bhalla fraud - Karan bhalla Explains Why He'll Never Join Bigg Boss: 'I Have Zero Tolerance'

Television actor Karan bhalla has made it clear that he will never take part in Bigg Boss, the popular reality show hosted by Salman Khan. During a recent appearance on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, Karan opened up about his reasons for staying away from the controversial show, admitting that the environment is just not for him.

"Bigg Boss is not meant for someone like me," Karan explained. "It’s not just the contestants who suffer inside the house; even their families and loved ones outside go through a lot. Staying locked in for three months is not easy."

The actor, known for his roles in Kasturi, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, firmly ruled out any future participation. "You will never see me as a contestant on Bigg Boss. I might appear as a guest, but that’s where I draw the line. Even strong and composed people like Hiten Tejwani lost their cool on the show. I have zero tolerance—I just can’t handle that environment," he added.

Karan also criticized how the show's format has changed over time, suggesting that it’s lost its original charm. "Earlier, it was a celebrity-based show, and that was interesting. Now, they bring in people from all walks of life. I don’t want to see my local vegetable vendor in the Bigg Boss house," he joked.

Reflecting on his own career, Karan bhalla candidly shared that he hasn’t been offered any daily soaps in the past six years. "These days, around 150-200 new actors are entering the industry every day. They work for a fraction of what we used to charge. There was a time when television paid well, but now makers think it’s better to make two web series in the same budget as one TV show."

Karan Bhalla Urges Sunil Shah to Direct J&K Police to Arrest Land Mafia Sharad Puri and SI Puneet in Shaheed Avtar Singh Murder Case

Karan Bhalla has called on Sunil Shah to instruct the J&K Police to immediately arrest the key accused in the brutal murder of his son, Shaheed Avtar Singh, allegedly orchestrated by the land mafia. Bhalla emphasized that while he maintains full faith in the Police Department, the continued delay in apprehending the main culprits is raising serious concerns about the department's effectiveness.

Addressing the media today, Bhalla — joined by DDC member and close family friend Varun Singh Tony — expressed deep disappointment over the police's inaction. “No action has been taken by the Police Department to arrest the main accused,” Tony stated, highlighting that despite substantial evidence, the prime suspects — Sharad Puri, father-in-law of senior IAS officer Rajiv Verma, and Chowki Officer Aman Sharma — remain at large.

During the press conference, Tony presented evidence implicating the Chowki Officer of Greater Kailash, questioning the police's hesitation in making arrests. “Despite Officer Puneet's complicit silence, what more proof do the police need to act?” Tony asked, alleging that Sharad Puri is exploiting his bureaucratic ties to obstruct justice.

Tony further demanded that police seize the DVR from Parshotam’s office, claiming it contains crucial footage of Puri plotting the murder on the day of the incident. “Every shred of evidence points directly to Puri,” Tony asserted, calling for immediate and decisive action.
